Should You Kill Mystic Carrion in BG3: Tips, Locations, and Insights from Daniel Wenerowicz

Are you ready for an epic adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3? One of the key characters you’ll encounter is the formidable Mystic Carrion. This ancient mummy is involved in two quests: Find the Mystic Carrion and Destroy the Mystic Carrion. But here’s the exciting part – you actually have a choice whether to engage in combat with this elusive creature or simply leave him be. In this comprehensive BG3 guide, we’ll dive into the reasons why it’s highly recommended to take on the Mystic Carrion and eliminate the threat he poses.

So, why should you definitely go for the kill? Well, for starters, the Mystic Carrion has wreaked havoc on countless lives, and dispatching him will not hinder your progress in completing any related quests. In fact, eliminating this malevolent being will not only give you a sense of satisfaction, but it will also grant you access to some of the most coveted items in his personal shop. The Mystic Carrion’s defeat will not hinder your ability to complete the battle task at hand.

Where to locate the Mystic Carrion

You can find the Mystic Carrion in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate, specifically inside Philgrave’s Mansion, during Act Three. There are a few different approaches to reach the mansion and confront the ancient mummy.

  1. The first method involves passing a persuasion check to reveal a hidden hole in the wall, located at coordinates (X:-27, Y:-166). To squeeze through, you’ll need to utilize the Enlarge/Reduce spell.
  2. The second approach takes you to the other side of the building, at coordinates (X:-8, Y:-158). Progress past the green Dragonborne and descend the steps until you spot a carved-out door. To clear the path, you’ll need to succeed in a Sleight of Hand check of DC 25 and remove the stone slab obstructing the entrance.

When you first engage in conversation with the Mystic Carrion, he will request your assistance in finding Thrumbo and bringing him back. However, the journey doesn’t end there. Thrumbo himself will share his own story, and additional quests will unfold. One such quest involves the painter Oskar Fevras, who requires the Mystic Carrion’s aid in exorcising a spirit haunting his wife’s mansion. The good news is, you can still complete both of these quests, even after dealing with the Mystic Carrion.

Discovering Thrumbo’s Location in Baldur’s Gate

In the vast and eerie world of Baldur’s Gate, you’ll come across a captivating undead character named Thrumbo. Serving as the loyal minion of the enigmatic Mystic Carrion, finding Thrumbo becomes a thrilling quest. Here’s how you can uncover his whereabouts:

  1. Begin by teleporting to the Heapside Strand on the map.
  2. Navigate down the three flights of stairs that lead to the boats.
  3. Depending on your previous visits, you might encounter a battle with the Sahuagin.
  4. Upon resolving the conflict, enter the small house with the stairs and proceed through the double doors.
  5. Within the house, you’ll find Thrumbo concealed in the wardrobe on the right side.

In our personal adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3, we made the controversial decision to eliminate Thrumbo, all in an attempt to deceive the Mystic Carrion and escape his pursuit. However, conversing with Thrumbo immediately exposes your association with him, alerting the Mystic Carrion. Consequently, you must either provide evidence or engage in combat.

Interestingly, Thrumbo possesses a crucial key to vanquishing the Carrion. By acquiring the jar from Thrumbo’s remains, we successfully slain the Mystic Carrion, claiming his possessions as our own. In the main room, you’ll find a chest containing the torch required for the painter’s quest.

Strategies for Defeating the Mystic Carrion in BG3

To defeat the formidable Mystic Carrion, you must focus on destroying his heart.

  • Return to Philgraves’s Mansion.
  • Engage in a battle against the mummy, supported by his fiends on the first floor. Be prepared for a challenging fight.
  • Obtaining the jarred heart from Thrumbo or the sewers is vital for victory.
