The Underdark is teeming with mushrooms, but one mushroom stands above the rest in terms of lore – the royal Noblestalk. What makes the Noblestalk truly fascinating are its unique interactions in Baldur’s Gate 3. While many mushrooms in the Underdark have negative effects, the Noblestalk possesses the remarkable ability to restore lost memories.
Finding the Noblestalk in Baldur’s Gate 3
In the game, there is only one wild Noblestalk, located near Baelen in the Underdark, specifically on the Northwest wall of the Bibberbang cave.
Be careful, as accidentally detonating the Bibberbang will destroy the mushroom. To acquire the Noblestalk, it is recommended to use spells like Mage Hand, Dimensional Door, or Misty Step to reach it. Some players have also succeeded in using the rock ledges on the left to hop closer and finally grab the coveted stalk.
Multiple Uses for the Noblestalk in Baldur’s Gate 3
During your playthrough, you may encounter three characters with amnesia, presenting opportunities to use the Noblestalk:
Eating the Noblestalk alone can restore some of your health and cure various ailments. However, certain characters have unique interactions with it:
- Derryth – located in the Myconoid Colony
- Shadowheart – who lost her memories due to Sharr
- The Dark Urge Tav
- Baelen – Derryth’s husband, after being rescued from the Bibberbang
Who should you entrust the Noblestalk to in Baldur’s Gate 3? Find out!
When it comes to deciding who deserves the Noblestalk in Baldur’s Gate 3, a practical approach is the way to go. By giving the Noblestalk to Derryth Bonecloak, you can help her establish her shop in Lower City during Act 3.
Not only that, but Derryth will also be selling three more Noblestalk in her shop. This gives you the opportunity to share the experience with each of the amnesiacs if you wish. However, keep in mind that some of the plot points revealed through these memories might lose their impact or intrigue if they come too late. So, if you do decide to give the Noblestalk to Derryth, waste no time in making your way to her shop in Lower City.
Are you playing Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3? If not, giving the Noblestalk to Shadowheart is your next best option. However, some players have encountered difficulties getting Shadowheart to consume the mushroom. To trigger this prompt, you need to progress through her conversation until she has revealed all her significant secrets. This includes her allegiance to Shar, the removal of her memories, and her confusion about the Mysterious Sharran Wound. Once you’ve achieved this, talk to her while having the Noblestalk in your inventory. You’ll be required to pass a persuasion or intimidation saving throw of 12.
If you choose to give the Noblestalk to Shadowheart, it’s recommended to do so before visiting the House of Grief in Lower City. This will unlock unique dialogue and reveal her memories of a boy she once knew. However, be prepared to pass another persuasion or intimidation saving throw to help her overcome her aversion to mushrooms.
For players immersed in the Dark Urge storyline, using the Noblestalk on yourself is strongly encouraged. The memories that resurface may not be surprising, but they add a visceral touch to the game.
Another option is giving the Noblestalk to Baelen. While it may lead him back to his previous reprehensible behavior, it will result in Derryth leaving him and finding solace in Lower City. Additionally, you can inform the Lower City cat, Myshka, that Derryth is its mother, enabling them to live together. This conclusion brings a positive ending for both characters.
Exploit to Use the Noblestalk Multiple Times in Baldur’s Gate 3
If you’re disappointed about not being able to give the Noblestalk to Durge or Shadowheart, there is an exploit that allows you to use it twice. Follow these steps:
- Place the Noblestalk in a bag, pouch, or container in your inventory.
- Talk to Derryth Bonecloak and choose an option other than “Show her the Noblestalk.”
- Talk to Shadowheart or use the Noblestalk on yourself as Dark Urge.
- Convince Shadowheart to consume the Noblestalk.
- Switch to a character who is not in conversation.
- Open your team’s inventory (use the inventory tab on PC).
- Check the container holding the Noblestalk to ensure it is still present.
- Move the container with the Noblestalk to a different character not engaged in conversation with Derryth.
- After the conversation with Shadowheart, move the container back to the character speaking to Derryth.
- In the conversation with Derryth, select “Show her the Noblestalk.”
Following these steps should allow you to use the Noblestalk twice. It may seem a bit complicated on paper, but the goal is to have two conversations happening simultaneously and trick the game into believing you’ve used the Noblestalk. Good luck, and don’t forget to save your progress before attempting this exploit!
