Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Save or Kill Minsc? Get the Answer here! (BG3)
If you find yourself in the underground hideaway of the Guild, chances are you’ve become involved with Nine-Finger Keene and Jaheira. Both share a common goal: stopping Minsc, who is causing chaos in the city to create a fertile ground for the Absolute Cult.
When you finally locate Minsc in the Abandoned Cistern, Jaheira will plead with you to spare his life. So, should you yield to her request or not?
The answer is simple: you should save Minsc. By using Shadowheart’s Astral Prism and having Jaheira in your party, you can cleanse his mind from the Absolute’s brainwashing.
It’s important to note that Jaheira must remain alive for you to recruit Minsc. The crucial moment arises during the Find the Nightsong questline, where you must decide whether to kill Nightsong or spare them. If you choose to commit murder, the protective sphere in the Last Light Inn will vanish, resulting in the off-screen demise of Jaheira and many others.
There are no drawbacks to saving Minsc. By choosing this path, Jaheira will be pleased, and her companion quest will be successfully completed. Minsc will become a permanent party member in your camp as a ranger. Furthermore, this decision will seamlessly advance the “Aid the Underduke” quest line.
Minsc proves to be a delightful and entertaining companion, particularly when it comes to his personality.
Now, if you’re unsure how to avoid killing Minsc during the fight, here’s what you can do. Look for the “Passives” sub-menu at the bottom of your hotbar, which displays all your available actions. Click on it, and you’ll find a new action called “Non-Lethal Attack.”
By choosing this option, your melee attacks will reduce Minsc’s health to just 1 HP. However, be careful as magical attacks can still be lethal.
Once Minsc is knocked out, and you have dealt with the other Absolutist doppelgangers, you will have the opportunity to speak to him. Your conversation choices will determine whether or not he joins your party.
Additional Quest Details
You can recruit Minsc after Jaheira joins your party. This will trigger the companion quest, “The High Harper,” which will lead you to find Minsc at the Counting Halls. Here’s how to reach the underground hideaway and locate the Emperor.
Underground Hideaway
To reach the Underground Hideaway, head past Elfsong Tavern until you come across another building on your right. It will be immediately visible as you enter the Lower City. The quest to find the Mindflayer’s hideout will automatically be added to your journal.
Proceed to the first floor and locate the kitchen at the back. Inside the kitchen, you will find a ladder that leads to the basement of Elfsong Tavern. Defeat the rats and head left from this room towards the wine racks. By the crumbling doorway in the storage room, you will discover a button. Pressing it will open a barrel, granting you access to a hidden area.
Guildhall Location
You can easily reach the Guildhall from the Lower City or the Lower City Sewers. Use the manhole at coordinates (X:127, Y:-30) for a quick and convenient route. It will be located north of the Basilisk Gate, tucked away in an alleyway. Break down the western wall at coordinates (X:38, Y:784), and continue your journey.
The History of Jaheira and Minsc
Minsc, a brave adventurer, hails from a matriarchal nation called Rashemaar. As he embarked on his dajemma, a traditional coming-of-age journey, he formed a bond with Dynaheir, a young woman. However, their journey took an unexpected turn when Dynaheir was abducted.
In his quest to rescue Dynaheir, Minsc crossed paths with Jaheira and Khalid. Together, they faced numerous challenges and ultimately managed to save Dynaheir from captivity. Not only that, but they also succeeded in defeating Sarevok Anchev, a powerful Bhaalspawn, effectively putting an end to the Iron Crisis.
Minsc’s heroic actions did not go unnoticed. Guildmaster Nine-Fingers Keene, who shares a deep history with Jaheira in combating evil forces, recognizes the significance of rescuing Minsc. Keene even reminisces about Minsc’s previous exploits, describing him as a renowned hero in her own youth.
While exploring the sewers, keep an eye out for a peculiar skeleton. Hidden within it lies a secret treasure waiting to be discovered.
