Recruiting Laezel
Laezel can be found on the Nautiloid ship during the prologue. She will be the first party member you recruit and will play a crucial role in your escape. However, after the prologue, she will temporarily leave your party. To reunite with her, head to the Ravaged Beach, located just north of the Roadside Cliffs.
Here, you’ll need to rescue her from two Tieflings who are holding her prisoner. Choose to side with Laezel against the Tieflings, and she will agree to join your party. If you don’t recruit her immediately, you may later find her dead in the vicinity of other Githyanki.
Laezel’s attributes, starting equipment, and skills
Laezel possesses remarkable strength, which makes her highly proficient at overpowering enemies. However, she may lack in other areas.
- Strength: 17
- Dexterity: 13
- Constitution: 14
- Intelligence: 11
- Wisdom: 12
- Charisma: 8
Starting equipment:
- Longsword
- Shortbow
- Githyanki Half Plate
- Leather Boots
Skills:
- Acrobatics
- Arcana
- Athletics
- Survival
- Intimidation
Passionate, fierce, and formidable, Laezel thrives in the realm of athletics. Her exceptional strength empowers her in combat, but her low charisma score makes intimidation checks a risky endeavor. It’s best to utilize her skills in bashing skulls rather than relying on her for dialogue checks.
Embarking on Laezel’s Companion Quest
Once Laezel joins your party after being rescued from the Tieflings, her companion quest, “The Githyanki Warrior,” begins. Compared to other quests, it is straightforward. Laezel possesses the knowledge to cure the tadpole infestation affecting you and your party, and your task is to locate a Githyanki creche.
Upon interrogating a Tiefling at Druid Grove, you’ll learn about a Githyanki patrol at The Risen Road. Head there and engage in battle with the Githyanki. Upon defeating them, an item they drop will reveal the creche’s location.
Boosting Laezel’s Approval Rating
Laezel admires strength, domination, and cruelty. Demonstrating your martial prowess, exerting dominance, and displaying a cruel demeanor will earn her approval. Keep in mind that she frequently clashes with Shadowheart, so favoring one character over the other may lead to a decrease in approval. Laezel also favors the Githyanki method of removing the tadpole, rejecting alternative solutions. She embodies a “fight first, talk later” mentality and does not appreciate signs of weakness.
Earning Inspiration for Laezel
Inspiration points can be gained by both your character and your companions based on their backgrounds. These points can then be used to reroll ability checks during crucial moments. As a Soldier background, Laezel earns inspiration for actions that showcase combat prowess. This includes achievements such as defeating five enemies in a single turn or vanquishing a cultist leader. The more impressive your party’s battles, the more likely Laezel will gain inspiration.
Romancing Laezel
If you’re looking to ignite a passionate romance with the fierce and aloof Laezel, you’ll need to win her approval. Building a strong relationship with her is key, and you can learn more about earning her approval in the section above.
Laezel is known for her straightforward approach to romance. If she approves of you enough, she may even initiate an intimate encounter during a camp celebration. Be prepared for her bold advances, and if you’re interested, simply accept her invitation to spend the night.
To begin the romance, approach your bedroll and choose Laezel as your partner. She will lead you to an abandoned stone ruin, where you’ll have the choice to assert your dominance or let Laezel take control. It’s a passionate and adventurous experience either way, but be prepared for some soreness in the morning.
Optimal Build for Laezel
Laezel starts with the Great Weapon Fighting style, making her skilled with two-handed weapons rather than shields or dual-wielding. As a Fighter, she is straightforward to build until level 3, where she must choose between two subclasses: Battle Master or Eldritch Knight. For the best results, it is highly recommended to go with the Battle Master route for Laezel, as her lower Intelligence stat makes the spellcasting abilities of the Eldritch Knight less effective.
As a level 3 Battle Master, you can choose three maneuvers for Laezel, each fueled by subclass-specific superiority dice. We recommend selecting the following maneuvers:
- Menacing Attack, which gives you a chance to frighten enemies
- Riposte, a powerful counter-attack that deals massive damage if an opponent misses you
- Trip Attack (Melee), allowing you to knock opponents prone
At level 4, it is recommended to choose the ability improvement to increase Laezel’s strength by two points. With a strength of 19, her maneuvers will become even more fearsome. Finally, at level 5, she will gain an extra attack, giving her even more offensive power.
That covers the essentials for maximizing Laezel’s abilities. While her cruel nature may not always align with your party during dialogues and decision-making in the BG3 camp, she will undoubtedly be a formidable force in battle.
