As you embark on your adventure in Baldur’s Gate 3, you may come across various rocky crevices, holes, and burrows scattered throughout the game world. While most classes in the game might not be able to squeeze their way inside these small openings, fear not! There are options available to every player. Here’s how you can access these rocky crevices, holes, and burrows in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Unlocking the Secrets of Rocky Crevices, Burrows, and Holes
When you stumble upon a rocky crevice, hole, or burrow, it often indicates an alternative pathway to a particular location. However, these narrow openings are only suitable for the tiniest of creatures, leaving you with limited options to exploit.
To gain entry to rocky crevices, holes, or burrows in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can:
- Choose to be a Gnome or use Disguise Self to transform into one.
- Utilize the Wild Shape ability to transform into a cat (if you are a druid or have a druid in your party).
- Employ the Gaseous Form spell or scroll.
It’s important to note that not all rocky crevices, burrows, and holes are created equal. While gnomes can slip into rocky crevices, they may not fit into holes and burrows. Similarly, the Wild Shape ability permits transformation into a cat, but it might not work for every situation. On the other hand, Gaseous Form allows you to access any narrow opening, regardless of its size. Thus, it is the preferred spell or scroll to carry if you prefer a stealthy approach to reaching certain locations.
If you are unsure how to transform into a gnome, fear not! There are alternatives available. Disguise Self is a level 1 spell that Shadowheart, a Trickery Domain Cleric, is likely to have access to by the time you encounter your first rocky crevice, burrow, or hole. Alternatively, Sorcerers, Wizards, and Warlocks with the Eldritch Invocation: Mask of Many Faces will also be able to cast Disguise Self.
In order to obtain the Wild Shape ability to transform into a cat, you must either be a druid or recruit a druid into your party. One potential druid companion is Halsin, whom you can find and rescue from the Goblin Camp in Act 1. Another opportunity to recruit a druid presents itself in Act 3.

With these options at your disposal, you can now confidently explore the hidden depths of Baldur’s Gate 3 and uncover its secrets!
If you’re a Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard, or a Circle of the Spores Druid at level 5, you have the opportunity to acquire the powerful level 3 Transmutation Spell, Gaseous Form. Alternatively, as a Druid, you can opt for the Underdark passive at level 5 by choosing the Circle of the Land. In the off chance that these options are not available to you, fear not. Gaseous Form can be obtained as a scroll or potion, which can be found either at merchants or through thorough looting.
As an avid player, I can’t help but express my love for Gaseous Form. It is a spell that I highly recommend adding to your arsenal, especially for your spell casters. Beyond its usefulness in traversing rocky crevices, Gaseous Form proves to be excellent for eluding traps and conquering unexpected challenges.
