Baldur’s Gate 3: Mastering the Pause Feature and Gameplay Insights by Shaun Cichacki

Engaging in battles in Baldur’s Gate 3 during your thrilling adventure can be time-consuming. In such intense moments, it’s essential to take a pause and catch your breath. However, finding a way to do so in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t immediately clear, leaving you wondering about the possibility of a pause feature.

Is it Possible to Pause in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Regrettably, there isn’t a hard-pause feature in Baldur’s Gate 3, regardless of your location in the game. For busy individuals, the ability to pause a game is vital for their overall enjoyment, so the absence of this option can be concerning. However, akin to games in the Souls series, there are alternative methods to safeguard your progress when you need to briefly step away or attend to other matters.

If you’re playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and find yourself in need of a momentary pause, there are a couple of options available to you. One such option is activating the Turn-Based mode, which allows you to take a breather and strategize. For controller users, simply pull in the Right Trigger and head to the hourglass icon. On the other hand, if you’re playing with a keyboard and mouse, just click on the hourglass to activate turn-based mode. While this mode doesn’t provide a true pause, it does give you a chance to regroup and prepare for what lies ahead.

Another way to take a pause in BG3 is by returning to your Camp. Here, you can take a break, swap party members, restock your supplies, and heal up before venturing back into the action. While it’s not a complete pause, you can at least feel safe from any imminent threats while at camp. It’s also an opportunity to interact with your Guardian and add some excitement to your adventure.

Even though BG3 doesn’t offer a dedicated pause button, finding a safe spot like your camp can provide a sense of relief. Here, you can catch your breath without the worry of being ambushed by enemies. While it may not be a perfect solution, knowing how to find sanctuary when things get tough can alleviate some of the stress during gameplay.

Although pausing may not be possible in BG3, don’t forget to take a moment to pet the dog before setting off on your epic quest. And make sure to explore our Baldur’s Gate 3 section below for more information on this expansive adventure.
