Selecting the ideal equipment for your party members and main character in Baldur’s Gate 3 can sometimes be a challenging task. Requirements for Heavy Armor
While Heavy Armor is not initially available for all classes, any class has the potential to use it. Fighters, Paladins, and certain subclasses of Clerics (such as Life, Nature, Tempest, or War Domains) have proficiency in Heavy Armor starting from level one.
For other classes, however, obtaining proficiency in Heavy Armor requires a specific path and may require utilizing feat choices, possibly all of them.
If you already have proficiency in ANY type of armor (except for Sorcerers, Wizards, and Monks), you will need to acquire the Moderately Armored feat first, followed by the Heavily Armored feat. However, if you belong to one of the aforementioned classes, this feat progression will start with Lightly Armored, and you will exhaust all three available feat choices.
Is Heavy Armor Worth it?
When it comes to survival in games like Baldur’s Gate 3, having the right armor is crucial. However, it’s important to note that armor choices are entirely up to the player’s preference. Unlike other RPGs, where armor provides damage reduction, in Baldur’s Gate 3, armor focuses on making enemies less likely to hit you.
If you’re looking for a tank character with high defensive capabilities, Heavy Armor is the way to go. It offers a decent Armor Class (AC) stat, making it more difficult for enemies to land a hit. Pair it with a high Dexterity character, and you’ll become a formidable force on the battlefield.
On the other hand, if you have a stealthy character, Heavy Armor may not be the best choice. It can negatively affect stealth checks, making it more challenging to remain undetected. So, it’s essential to consider your character’s playstyle and role before committing to Heavy Armor.
