Look for them on the upper left side of the area, to the left of the Druid camp, after their leader has been attacked by the Owlbear. Engage them in dialogue without revealing your status as a survivor of the shipwreck.
When the dialogue option appears, inform them that they must find the Owlbear and avenge their leader. They will proceed towards the Owlbear Cave, and you can follow them there.
If, for any reason, they don’t appear, you can still head to the cave independently. It can be located in the upper left corner of the map, which is clearly marked in the provided screenshot.
Attack or Not? Understanding the Owlbear Encounter
When you enter the cave, you’ll be faced with a critical decision: whether or not to engage the Owlbear that resides within. This decision automatically triggers as you proceed forward. As you approach the creature, you’ll have the opportunity to make some dice rolls to determine its aggression level. If you succeed, you’ll discover that the Owlbear is simply protecting its cub and will leave you alone as long as you show no aggression and stay on the left side of the cave. Unlocking the Gilded Chest of Selune in Baldur’s Gate 3: A Guide
Discovering how to unlock a magic chest is another exciting activity in Baldur’s Gate 3’s Owlbear Cave. It’s important to note that you’ll need specific party members with suitable stat distributions, such as Shadowheart, Astarion, and Gale, or others with similar characteristics.
To find the chest, take the left path from the entrance and climb down the craggy rocks. Continue to the left until you reach a chest surrounded by some items. As you approach, a Religion check will automatically occur. Having Shadowheart in your party should guarantee a successful check, revealing a hidden statue just out of view.
Once this happens, temporarily remove Shadowheart from your party and have her wait near the cave entrance. While it’s possible to have her around and even use her to unlock the chest, it won’t yield the best results.
Return to the chest and rotate your camera until the statue becomes visible. Use the Jump ability to traverse the gap between the statue and the chest, then position Astarion behind the statue. His keen perception should unveil a Selune Prayer sheet.
When the sheet is visible, make a save file and have Gale examine it. A Religion check will determine if you successfully learn how to open the chest. If it fails, reload the save and try again until you succeed.
Once you pass a Religion check, right-click the sheet and pick it up. Then, return to the chest and create a new save. Open your inventory and have Gale read the prayer sheet. This should result in the chest opening, revealing valuable accessories and loot.
