Unlock the Toy Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3: Unraveling the Mystery
In the Grymforge area of Baldur’s Gate 3, an adventure awaits with numerous fascinating points to discover. From hidden treasures to an impressive forge, there is no shortage of secrets to uncover. Among these surprises, you may come across an alcove concealing both Mimics and a small toy chest. However, opening this chest is not as straightforward as it seems. If you are a fellow treasure hunter determined to solve this mini-puzzle, read on to uncover the secret of opening the toy chest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Fortunately, there are three methods to unlock the Toy Chest and reveal the coveted Harper Stash in BG3:
- Cast the Light cantrip or any light-producing spell to illuminate the surroundings and shed light on the hidden mechanism.
- Utilize the power of the Produce Flame cantrip to create fire, which may trigger the chest’s opening mechanism.
- Take matters into your own hands and throw the chest, hoping that the impact triggers the release mechanism.
By performing one of these three actions, you will set in motion the unlocking of the toy chest, revealing a larger Harper Stash. However, be prepared for a challenge, as you will need to defeat the three Mimics lurking nearby. Once you have conquered them, success lies in skillfully disarming and opening the chest to finally gain access to its valuable contents.

When playing Baldur’s Gate 3, the spells you choose and the class you’ve selected will determine the abilities available to you. Light and Produce Flame cantrips are commonly chosen, but if you don’t have them, there’s an alternative solution. In my case, I relied on Shadowheart’s Daylight spell at level three. Alternatively, you can also throw the toy chest on the floor. Either method is effective; the choice is yours!
Unlocking the Harper Stash Chest
After casting your spell or throwing the toy chest, the Harper Stash will appear in the center of the room. If the Mimics haven’t awakened yet, opening the stash will surprise them and initiate a battle. Defeat them and then proceed to disarm and lockpick the chest to claim its rewards. To successfully pick the lock, you’ll need to roll a 20 or higher on a Sleight of Hand check. It’s advisable to use a character with proficiency and expertise to increase your chances of success!
