Mountain Pass Tie Up Loose Ends: A Deep Dive into Daphne Fama’s Adventure

Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a vast and immersive experience that can keep players engaged for hours on end. It’s filled with quests, secrets, and a sense of adventure that can easily captivate anyone. However, there’s always that lingering fear of accidentally stepping into Act 2 too soon. Thankfully, there is a definitive moment when you transition from Act 1 to Act 2 in the game.

Many players, including myself, have received warnings to “wrap up loose ends” before proceeding to the next area. This warning typically pops up when attempting to enter the Mountain Pass, shortly after witnessing the encounter between the Githyanki and the tiefling. However, stepping into the Mountain Pass itself does not trigger Act 2.

The only way to officially trigger Act 2 is by entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands. This particular area can only be accessed through the Underdark or by following a specific path after the Mountain Pass.

This is why players are advised to tie up loose ends before progressing further. However, it’s worth mentioning that the Mountain Pass offers plenty of Act 1 activities, including the Lae’zel Githyanki Creche and the legendary weapon known as the Blood of Lathander.

It’s also common for players to mistake the Underdark as Act 2 due to its distinct and unique subterranean environment. It features a significant amount of content, such as the Myconoid Colony and the decision to free or eliminate Nere. While it may feel like a new act, it’s actually still part of Act 1.

To access the Shadow-Cursed Lands, players can descend through the Rosymorn Monastery Trail at X: -143, Y: -130, which is just beyond the Mountain Pass. Alternatively, they can take the Grymforge Elevator at X: -602, Y: 383.

In both cases, players will be warned about progressing their story, but they can still return to all the areas in Act 1 until reaching the point of no return in Act 2. This means there’s ample time for leisurely exploration throughout two-thirds of the game.
