Should You Accept Orin’s Offer? Understanding Daphne Fama’s Perspective

Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredibly captivating game that offers a unique gameplay experience with its dynamic side quests. These quests come in two forms – some are open and available until you progress to the next act, while others are time-gated and require prompt action to avoid irreversible consequences. In this article, we’ll focus on one specific side quest involving a character named Orin and the time you have to rescue their victim in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Once you reach Act 3, you need to be cautious as you explore the sewers. It’s highly likely that you’ll come across one of your companions who, to your surprise, turns out to be Orin in disguise. As soon as this revelation takes place, this party member (potentially Lae’zel, Halsin, or Gale) will disappear from your camp, leaving you with a critical decision.

Orin gives you an ultimatum – either kill Gortash or say goodbye to your companion forever. The clock starts ticking, and your kidnapped party member’s fate hangs in the balance.

Fortunately, you have ample time to rescue your companion once they are taken captive by Orin. No matter how many long rests you take or how much time elapses in the game, Orin will keep your party member alive and unharmed. They won’t suffer any additional trauma during this period. However, be warned that if you fail to handle Orin’s discussion correctly at the altar where you face her, you may still lose your companion.

So, take your time to engage in side quests and rest in between. If Orin takes away a companion that you highly rely on, don’t hesitate to reload your previous save. In my case, as Lae’zel was my powerful multi-hitting muscle, I reloaded until Orin took Gale instead. Farewell, my wizard buddy.

While Orin’s side quest adds a thrilling element of time sensitivity, there are even more choices in Baldur’s Gate 3 that hold significant consequences. One such example is the decisions you make when Astarion finally encounters his vampire master.
