Orin’s Unstoppable barrier in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a formidable obstacle that you must overcome to defeat her. This barrier reduces the damage taken by Orin to just one point and consumes one charge of Unstoppable. It also makes her immune to any external forces that try to move her, be it mundane or magical.
In the game, Orin starts with seven charges of Unstoppable. This means that she can withstand up to seven hits, each dealing only one damage. Even if you unleash a powerful 40-damage attack, it will only count as a single hit point. Therefore, it’s crucial to unleash as many attacks as possible to deplete her barrier.
Breaking Orin’s Unstoppable Barrier
To break Orin’s Unstoppable barrier, we recommend saving your action surges and Magic Missiles spells for the beginning of the fight. By using low-damage attacks, you can maximize the number of hits you land. Alternatively, a level 5 Magic Missiles spell can shatter the entire barrier. However, keep in mind that you have only one turn before the barrier regenerates.
Once the barrier is broken, unleash your characters’ most powerful abilities. Having a fighter like Lae’zel with Action Surge is advantageous because she can deliver up to six hits on Orin. This can be enough to defeat her if the barrier is fully down or significantly weaken the barrier.
Shadowheart’s Harm spell can also be useful while the Unstoppable barrier is still active. By reducing Orin’s maximum HP, you increase your chances of defeating her in a single turn when combined with a fighter’s Action Surge.
If you manage to defeat Orin quickly enough, her Unstoppable barrier won’t be reapplied by Bhaal, resulting in the failure of the ritual. This allows you to obtain the Netherstone and save your captured companion.
Defeating Orin’s Cultists of Bhaal Minions
Alternatively, you can attempt to eliminate Orin’s minions first to remove Orin’s Unstoppable boon for the duration of the fight. However, be aware that this approach may require more skill and strategy than it’s worth.
When facing Orin’s minions in the ritual, it’s important to note that they have the Sanctuary condition active, rendering them immune to direct hits. However, they are still vulnerable to splash damage, making area-of-effect (AOE) attacks your best bet for taking them down. Thunderwave is especially effective as it not only deals damage but also has the added benefit of pushing targets over the edge of the platform. Additionally, Force Tunnel can knock a few minions down, and Circle of Death is a powerful spell to take out multiple ritualists at once, although be cautious of potential damage to your allies who may be near the helpless captured companion on the altar.
After the first turn, Orin will start casting Let the Slaughter Begin, which marks each ritualist with Bhaal’s Murderous Mark if they fail a save check. This condition lasts for two turns and adds +1 to Orin’s AC bonus upon the affected ritualist’s death. To avoid complications, avoid killing the marked minions to save yourself from a significant challenge.
Once all the ritualists have been dealt with, you no longer need to worry about Unstoppable recharging, giving you the freedom to confront Orin in any way you prefer. However, be aware that Orin can use Sanguine Animation to create additional skeletal minions from the bodies of the ritualists. While you may have to deal with these minions, they won’t contribute to Orin’s Unstoppable Charge.
Once the battle is over, Orin will dissolve into a gruesome pile of gore, allowing you to progress further.

Truthful answers will prompt the door to swing open, allowing you to delve deeper into the ruins.
After the door grants you passage, follow the descending path. Along the way, you will encounter a challenging trial. Here, you must overcome a ghost known as the Farslayer of Bhaal Ghislev while simultaneously fending off humanoid enemies that attack you from elevated positions with ranged assaults. Utilizing long-range area-of-effect attacks will prove invaluable, as these enemies tend to cluster together around the cliffsides and ruins of the room.
However, your primary focus should be on confronting and defeating the Farslayer. This ghost initiates a chanting process at the beginning of the trial, culminating in the casting of Bhaal’s Power Word Kill after seven turns. Beware, as this spell instantly eliminates any party member with less than 100 HP.

The Farslayer, a formidable opponent, is safeguarded by a powerful ability called Unstoppable with five charges. This means that before you can inflict significant damage, you need to hit him at least five times. Moreover, the Farslayer is resilient against a wide range of attacks, including slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, acid, thunder, necrotic, fire, lightning, cold, and poison. However, don’t be deceived by his intimidating appearance and resistances. In our playthrough, Karlach was able to defeat the Farslayer with just a few strikes once his Unstoppable charges were depleted. He is surprisingly less resilient than he seems. To maximize your effectiveness, quickly engage in combat with the Farslayer and deliver as many hits as possible during each turn.
Once you’ve successfully dealt with the Farslayer, the remaining enemies will flee. From there, make your way towards a metal door located to the right of the entryway where the Farslayer was positioned. Upon passing through the door and descending a series of stairs, you will eventually reach the Ancient Sigil Circle waypoint within the Temple of Bhaal. This serves as your last opportunity to heal and make any necessary adjustments to your party before facing Orin.
Directly ahead, across a bridge, you’ll encounter a pair of sturdy, imposing doors. Interacting with them will present the option to press the amulet against the door. Proceed with this action to access the entrance to the Bhaal Temple. Orin awaits you a short distance below on a circular platform, down a set of stairs.
