Baldur’s Gate 3: Exploring the House of Grief and Navigating the Challenges in Lower City

Attention, fellow adventurers! Are you as obsessed with Shadowheart as we are? She’s undoubtedly the most intriguing character in Baldur’s Gate 3, and we can’t get enough of her gothic charm. But we faced a dilemma during our gameplay – the elusive House of Grief, Shadowheart’s Sharran home, seemed impossible to find. So, it’s time to unveil the secret of locating the House of Grief in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Discovering the Sharran Lookout in Baldur’s Gate 3

Before embarking on your quest to find the House of Grief, you’ll need to track down the Sharran Lookout. This task awaits you after Shadowheart’s critical encounter in the Gauntlet of Sharr towards the end of Act 2. The lookout itself is rather inconspicuous, and if you’re not careful, you might pass it by without even realizing it.

The Sharran Lookout can be found in Rivington, located to the east near the refugees’ barn. As you explore the area, you’ll come across a humble tent-like structure next to a well, where a man by the name of Ferg Drogher awaits. This man is not only a peddler of mementos but also a fellow Sharran. Engage Shadowheart in a conversation with him, and he will guide her towards the Cloister of Sombre Embrace, a hidden Sharran temple beneath the House of Grief.

Upon encountering the Sharran lookout in Rivington, you’ll receive your next set of instructions. It’s time to venture into the House of Grief and face the consequences of your actions while attempting to save your parents – that is, if Shadowheart has aligned with Selune.

However, if your Shadowheart has chosen the path of a Dark Justicar, your goal may involve obliterating the Matron of Shar, who failed to recognize the untapped potential within Shadowheart all this time. Regardless of your objective, you must find your way to Shadowheart’s childhood home.

To locate the House of Grief, your journey will take you through the Lower City. Gaining access to the Lower City may require some cunning maneuvering on your part.

To access the Lower City in BG3, there are several ways you can go about it. Here are three options you can consider:

• Option 1: Complete the Open Hand Temple Murder Case and then talk to Valeria in the Sharess Caress.
• Option 2: Finish the initial phase of the Suspicious Toys quest and locate Arfur in the Sharess Caress.
• Option 3: Find yourself in a restricted area or get caught stealing, resulting in being thrown into jail. Opt to go to jail and then use your lockpicking skills to break free. This will grant you access to the Lower City.

Once you have obtained the pass to the Lower City, head to the northwest corner of the Lower City map. You will find the House of Grief located just to the left of the Baldur’s Gate waypoint and directly above Lady Jannath’s Estate.

However, once inside the House of Grief, you will face some challenging decisions. One of the significant choices you’ll encounter is whether to save or kill Shadowheart’s parents.
