How to Cure Bloodless in Baldur’s Gate 3: Your Guide to Overcoming Bloodless Status Effect

How to Remove the Bloodless Status Effect in BG3

In the fantastical world of Dungeons and Dragons, Baldur’s Gate 3 presents a variety of captivating creatures, both friend and foe, capable of inflicting debilitating conditions. One such condition is Bloodless – a status effect that can negatively impact your performance in the game.

While there are several positive status effects in BG3, such as Aura of Leadership and the enviable Happy, Bloodless is certainly not one of them. If you find yourself afflicted with Bloodless after a certain silver-haired vampire sinks his teeth into you (as any good friend of a vampire would), you may be eager to regain your full health. Here’s how you can remove the Bloodless effect in BG3.

Bloodless Status Effect:

  • -1 to attack rolls
  • -1 to saving throws
  • -1 to most ability checks

While you may be willing to endure these debuffs if you choose to let Astarion, your companion, feed on your neck, he, in turn, receives the opposite effect – Happy – granting him +1 in all the same areas. If you decide to take Astarion along with you, he will retain these improved stats. Meanwhile, you can either endure the debuffs or make use of certain spells to remove the Bloodless effect.

To remove the Bloodless status effect, you must take a long rest at camp with the necessary supplies. A short rest is insufficient, as is a long rest without the required supplies. Alternatively, a Paladin can use Lay on Hands to remove Bloodless, as can any character with the Lesser Restoration spell.

If you want to learn more about resting mechanics in BG3, we have a separate guide dedicated to that topic. Once you are familiar with the mechanics, a good nap during a long rest will cure you of all that ails you. If you are unable to take a long rest, you can purchase the necessary supplies from vendors or find them in chests, barrels, and other containers.

To use Lay on Hands, you must have a Paladin in your party who can use the action to cure the target of any diseases or effects. Lastly, Lesser Restoration, one of the many helpful spells in BG3, can be learned by several classes, including Bards, Clerics, Druids, and Rangers, and cast at level 2.

Now that you know how to recover from the Bloodless status effect following a death kiss from Astarion, you might even want to get close to him again. Fortunately, our guide to Baldur’s Gate 3 romance with him, or any other BG3 companions, can provide you with further information. Additionally, it’s important to equip yourself with powerful weapons and optimal builds to minimize the impact of negative status effects in BG3.
