Should You Free Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3: Consequences and Alternatives Explored

Prepare yourself for a thrilling adventure as you explore the depths of Moonrise Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3. Along your journey, you may encounter the enigmatic figure known as Mizora, Wyll’s patron. But what happens if you decide to take a decisive step and eliminate Mizora?

Mizora, without a doubt, is one of the most unpleasant characters you’ll encounter in the game. And that’s saying something considering the colorful cast of characters in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, as you progress further and recruit Wyll, you will enter Act 2 and eventually find yourself in the camp with Mizora approaching you with a rather prickly request. She will implore you to free Zariel’s Asset, kick-starting the quest known as “Rescue Zariel’s Asset.”

Following Ketheric Thorm into the Mindflayer Colony in Moonrise Tower, you’ll eventually come face to face with Zariel’s Asset trapped inside a Mindflayer Pod – none other than Mizora herself. At this point, you’ll be presented with two options: open the pod or kill Mizora.

However, it’s important to note that taking the path of killing Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3 carries significant consequences. If you choose to end Mizora’s life, she will vanish from the pod. Unfortunately, this choice triggers a chain of events that will have dire consequences for Wyll. He will be consumed by fire and dragged to the dreaded realm of Avernus. Even more distressing is the fact that Mizora’s death is not permanent, which means Wyll is still bound by the contract he made with her. Tragically, Wyll will be permanently removed from your party, leaving you with no way to bring him back.

As if losing Wyll wasn’t enough, members of your party, such as Karlach, will be furious with you for this irreversible act. Karlach, consumed by anger and disappointment in herself for allowing it to happen, will not easily forget the loss.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game filled with choices that have real consequences. Proceed with caution as you navigate the intricacies and moral dilemmas that await in this dark and captivating world.

If you made the decision to kill Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a small silver lining. When Wyll turns into a pile of ashes, all the items he had in his inventory will still be there.

What happens if you spare Mizora in Baldur’s Gate 3

Your second option is to spare Mizora. To do this, you can break the pod by passing a strength skill check or by passing an Arcana check to understand the Illithid controls next to Mizora’s pod. This is similar to how you recruited Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3.

If you choose to spare Mizora, Wyll will negotiate the end of his pact with her. She will agree, and he will be free in six months. Although this may seem like a long time considering the world might end, it’s better than nothing. Additionally, she will make an appearance later on in Act 3, offering a brief romance option and providing some antagonistic moments at your camp.

However, it is a good idea to skip this option and let her go. By doing so, you can keep Wyll, one of the smoothest party members, alive. You will also be able to continue his personal companion quest. Furthermore, Wyll has several side quests in Act 3.
